Poet of the Week: Lewis Carroll

Another one of my fav poets Lewis Carroll- British born n bred probably best know for Alice in Wonderland; he's quite clever at making up words by combining others together like in Jabberwocky. It seems just like yesterday I was in college doing Jabberwocky as a performance piece, which, if I remember right, I received an A on.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Artist of the week: Lucian Freud

Lucian Freud - the grandson of Sigmund recently sold a painting (the naked woman on the couch) for $33.6 million - the most ever sold by a living artist. I like his work and some days I wish I could paint - I've always liked oil pants, but wasn't too proficient at it (kinda like me English).

Molitva [Prayer]

Lookie what I found - well my Serbian/Hungarian friend found for me - the Serbian Winner from Eurovision 2007 w/ English subtitles; they are beautiful lyrics (Ooooo I get chills reading it) - some day I'll be saying it to my love. Let me tell you - anyone that has fallen in love feels like this - well I did each and every time (5x now). First was an American Southerner (South Carolina-6 months), 2nd American/French Canadian (Quebec-somewhere very remote-6 months), 3rd Sicilian (Capo D'Orlando-5.5 years), 4th Brazilian (Sao Paulo-few months) and 5th French (small village in France-forgot where :O( 1.5 intense months). Oy vey - can't wait to do it again!

Serbe [English]

Ni oka da sklopim, [I'm wide awake]
Postelja prazna tera san, [An empty bed drives my dreams away]
A život se topi [Life melts like ice]
I nestaje brzo, k'o dlanom o dlan. [Disappears in the twinkling of an eye]

K'o razum da gubim, [I'm losing my mind,]
Jer stvarnost I ne primećujem, [Pushing reality out of sight]
Još uvek te ljubim, [Our lips are touching softly]
Još uvek ti slepo verujem. [You're the one I believe blindly]

K'o luda, ne znam kuda, [I walk around like crazy]
Ljubavi se nove bojim, [Falling in love frightens me]
A dane, žive rane, [Days are like wounds]
Više ne brojim. [Countless and hard to get through]

Molitva, kao žar na mojim usnama je, [Prayer... It burns my sore lips like a fire]
Molitva, mesto reči samo ime tvoje. [Prayer... Thy name is something I admire]
(I) Nebo zna, kao ja, [Heaven knows just as well as I do]
Koliko puta sam ponovila, [So many times I have cried over you]
To nebo zna, baš kao ja, [Heaven knows just as well as I do]
Da je ime tvoje moja jedina [I pray and live only for you]
Molitva. [Prayer]

Al Bogu ne mogu [I can't lie to God]
Lagati sve dok se molim, [As I kneel down and pray]
A lažem ako kažem [You're the love of my life]
Da te ne volim [That's the only thing I can say]
